Canyon Lakes, CA offers amenity-rich living for those who want slightly smaller homes. A golf course, clubhouse, community pool, and on-site brewery ensure there’s plenty to do in this San Ramon community.

Canyon Lakes, CA is one a private community with a public golf course. Beautiful houses line the fairways and greens, and are in walking distance to an award-winning brewery at the clubhouse. 

Smaller homes for sale still offer space

The homes for sale in Canyon Lakes tend to be on the smaller side of average. They were mostly built during the 1980s and 1990s, when 2,000-3,000 square feet was considered quite large. The smaller homes in Canyon Lakes that are 2,000 square feet usually have 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, with larger options adding a bed, bath, and perhaps a larger garage.  That’s plenty of space for many young families and senior retirees.

Regardless of actual square footage, many homebuyers find that these residences seem larger than they actually are. Intuitive floor plans naturally flow from one space to the next, making everyday living easy, Features like vaulted ceilings, additional windows, and backyard living spaces all can make the houses seem quite spacious.

If even a 3-bedroom home is larger than you need, there are a number of 1-bedroom condominiums and mid-size townhouses throughout the community. These may give single adults and couples the room they need, and easy access to all of the amenities that the community has.

Not every homebuyer will find that the homes for sale here afford all of the space they want. For small families starting out and seniors ready to downsize, however, these homes can be just right. There are few other places near San Ramon that have houses for just over $1 million and condos for around $500,000, and also offer direct access to a golf course.

Two golf courses close by

The main feature of Canyon Lakes is its golf course and lake. The Canyon Lakes Golf Course meanders through much of the community, with many homes along the course’s fairways, greens, and trees. The community’s primary lake is at the north end of the course, but there’s also some water elsewhere on the course.

Complementing the public Canyon Lakes Golf Course is The Bridges Golf Course. This is a high-end private course that’s just a minute down Bollinger Canyon Road. Both are excellent and varied courses, have community spaces to spend time in, and are well worth playing. You may just decide to regularly schedule tee times at each course if you move here.

Excellent San Ramon schools for students of all ages

As is true with almost all San Ramon schools, the schools that serve Canyon Lakes are all excellent. Golden View Elementary, Iron Horse Middle, and California High School all receive top marks for academics and extracurriculars. The high school has been named a California Distinguished School and a National Blue Ribbon School (twice), which are two of the most distinguished awards a secondary school in California could receive.

Of course, there are also many excellent private schools nearby as well. Religiously affiliated schools, classic education schools, and schools using other educational approaches are all within a short drive.

Easy access to the highways

When heading out of town, simply take Crow Canyon Road or Bollinger Canyon Road two intersections west. You can get onto I-680 here, which will take you toward Oakland, San Francisco, Fremont, or San Jose. It also connects with I-580 just a couple of exits south. Take I-580 if going into the mountains, or if you need an alternative route during rush hour.
