Is the Old Ranch Estates Neighborhood a good place to live in San Ramon?
Nestled in the San Ramon Hills off Alcosta Blvd. and Old Ranch Road are the luxurious homes in the Old Ranch Estates neighborhood. Old Ranch Estates is a quiet neighborhood that’s fairly secluded yet close to all that San Ramon has to offer. The homes in Old Ranch Estates were built by Davidson Homes between 1991 and 1997. These luxury estate homes were built on large lots ranging in size from 6,360 to 39,370 square feet. Many of the lots backed to open space or green space and had views. There were single and two story homes in the 6 floor plans offered: Chaparral (3,040 sq.ft), Old Ranch (3,429 sq.ft.), Highland (3,026 sq.ft.), Ridgecrest (2,937 sq.ft.), Woodmont (2,365 sq.ft.) and Bridlewood (2,503 sq.ft.). The homes had 3 to 5 bedrooms, 2 or 3 car garages, 1 to 3 fireplaces, landscaped front yards, oak flooring and spiral staircases, formal entries, optional libraries, gourmet kitchens, large family rooms and luxurious primary suites.
Upscale luxury homes for sale that have been updated
The homes for sale in Old Ranch Estates tend not to come on the market very often, so you’ll want to be ready when one does. Davidson Homes only build 136 homes in this luxury neighborhood. When the homes were first offered for sale they sold between $428,490 to $533,490. Hard to believe prices were ever that low in San Ramon!
In 2024 however, you'll need to be prepared to pay considerably more than what they sold for 30(+/-) years ago. Prices usually range from $1,800,000 to $2,900,000 depending on location and size. These homes were well constructed when they were built and while they are older have been well maintained. The Old Ranch Estate homeowner have upgraded their homes throughout the years with more modern finishes and fixtures, including smart home technology.
Quiet neighborhood with large lots close to hiking trails
The biggest attraction to owners and prospective owners about Old Ranch Estates are the large lot sizes and hillside location. This neighborhood has all cul-de-sac streets branching off Old Ranch Estates Drive. There are no thoroughfare streets, so traffic through the neighborhood is limited to neighbors, visitors or delivery trucks. The lack of traffic, keeps the neighborhood quite and enjoyable.
Hiking is just located at the end Timbercreek Road, where you can hop on the Doughtery Hills Trail or go to the Summit View Trail. The Summit View Trail Park has wonderful views of the San Ramon Valley. The park even has a fun & challenging disc golf course that you can play with your own equipment. If you want to go for a walk or a run, you can find a trail just off Old Ranch Estates to enjoy the breathtaking views all year long.
Close to city amenities
Don’t assume a quiet and secluded neighborhood means that you’re in an inconvenient location. Old Ranch Estates is centrally located between two freeways, 580 and 680. So no matter which way you need to go you can easily get to San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland or Livermore.
Across the main road, Old Ranch Road, is Old Ranch Park with basketball court, baseball/softball field, soccer fields, playground, restrooms, walking trails, BBQ/Picnic area, mature trees, San Ramon Valley Views and parking lot. There's plenty to do at Old Ranch Park in San Ramon for children and adults. The park is located at 1000 Vista Monte Drive in San Ramon, if you want to locate it by GPS.
Because it's centrally located, you can choose to shop in Dublin or San Ramon. You can take Dougherty Road down to Dublin Blvd. to shop all all the restaurants, grocery stores (Sprouts, Safeway, Sahara Market, Whole Foods), retail stores (Target, REI, Burlington, Barnes & Noble, Ulta Beauty), car dealers & repair shops, etc. Or you can go up Alcosta Blvd. to the Market Place Shopping Center w/Trader Joes or down Bollinger Canyon Rd to the City Center at Bishop Ranch. Old Ranch Estates is in such a wonderful location to get to everything that you might need.
Highly Rated San Ramon Schools
Schools throughout San Ramon are strong, and those that Old Ranch Estates goes to are no exception. Country Club Elementary, Pine Valley Middle, and California High School are all highly rated and offer lots of opportunities. From excelling in the classroom to exploring extracurriculars, the San Ramon School District schools set-up all students for success.
Of course, there are also plenty of private schools nearby too, from classic schools to religious ones, there’s no shortage of good options of schools in San Ramon.
