Dublin
Is Dublin, CA a good place to live?
Dublin, CA was California’s fastest-growing city from 2010 - 2020, with a 58% population boom during the decade. So many new residents can’t be wrong, and you’ll likely see why when you visit.
Dublin, CA is a bustling city at the crossroads of East Bay. It’s convenient location, excellent schools, and many restaurants are just a few reasons why so many are moving here.
Substantially more affordable housing than San Francisco
Home prices in Dublin tend to be more affordable than those in San Francisco, and the difference is no small amount. Dublin’s median price per square foot was $674/sq. ft. in late 2023, which was a third lower than the median $995/sq. ft. in SFC.
Such a difference in price per square foot may allow you to purchase a much larger house than you’d be able to in SFC proper. Look at homes in Dublin, and you could find places with an extra bedroom, den or built-out basement for comparable prices. Most homes here are larger.
Of course, you might alternatively look for lower-priced homes here in the East Bay. While there are plenty of $1-2 million homes in Dublin, there are also ones listed in the mid-hundred thousands.
Easy access to San Francisco, Oakland and More
You can find these home prices while remaining effectively close to San Francisco. Downtown SFC is a 35-mile drive on I-580, or 40 miles if you take the long way via I-680. Both intersect right here, so you can always take either option depending on where traffic is.
Oakland, San Jose, and even the wineries and mountains are all similarly convenient to get to. Napa Valley is a 70-mile straight shot north. You can usually be past Sacramento and into the national forests within 2.5 hours, if you don’t leave at rush hour.
If you’d rather take public transit when going into SFC, BART has a stop right on the border of the city.
Local outdoor spaces and parks too
Getting outdoors doesn’t have to require a long drive. Right in Dublin, you’ll find plenty of outdoor spaces and parks for jogging, playing frisbee, or just soaking in the good weather.
Camp Parks isn’t the only outdoor highlight, but it’s become the city’s most infamous park. This is where MythBusters shot a rogue cannonball through a residence and onto a vehicle (no one was injured). The incident is now commemorated on December 6, as the “Victory in the battle for Dublin.” It’s marked by a film festival.
Another notable highlight are the two dog parks for Fido, and even just the residential neighborhoods where you can run and kids can play.
High-quality schools for students
Whether you prefer public or private schooling, children in Dublin have multiple options for a great education. The Dublin Unified School District is a top district in the Bay Area, and also when looking at all schools in California.
The district’s substantial size affords students lots of opportunities in music, visual arts, performance, sports (of all kinds), STEM and more. At the same time, a relatively small average class size ensures that students receive the attention they need to excel academically.
Lots of eateries, bars and shops
The city’s recent growth is perhaps most evident in the number of restaurants, particularly Asian eateries, that have been opened recently. Fine dining establishments, places for a quick bite, and cafes are just some of the many options you’ll find locally.
Where there are restaurants, there are typically also bars serving craft brews, local shops with handmade goods, and much more to see locally. You’ll undoubtedly head into San Francisco or Oakland for big events periodically, but you can have a great time right here in Dublin too.
